What is Medicare Part D?
Medicare Part D is the prescription drug coverage part of Medicare. Medicare beneficiaries can enroll in prescription drug plans provided by private insurance companies that have a contract with Medicare to provide this coverage. There are two ways to get coverage available in Wisconsin, stand-alone Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) and Medicare Advantage plans bundled with prescription drug coverage (MAPDs).

Help with Medicare Part D Costs
Medicare beneficiaries with low income and resources may be able to get help with their Medicare Part D costs. You can apply through Social Security for Extra Help for Part D drug plan copays, premiums, and deductible. You can apply for Extra Help at your local Social Security office or online at the Social Security Administration website. Anyone with Medicaid is automatically eligible for help with Medicare Part D copays, premiums, and deductibles. Call the helpline if you have questions about eligibility.
Drug Plan Enrollment
Everyone who is enrolled in Medicare is eligible to enroll in a Medicare Part D plan. October 15 to December 7 is the annual enrollment period when all Medicare beneficiaries can make decisions about their Part D plan for the upcoming year. Depending on certain circumstances, other special enrollment periods may apply throughout the year. Call the helpline if you have questions about enrollment.

Medicare Part D Helpline helps individuals in Wisconsin that are:
- Any age with or without a disability.
- Currently on Medicare or becoming eligible for Medicare.
- A family member or guardian of an individual eligible for or enrolled in Medicare.
