As Wisconsin voters head to the polls on Tuesday, Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW) provides these reminders regarding accessibility options at all Wisconsin polling places on Election Day:
- All polling places must have an accessible voting system turned on and set up for use when the polls open. This equipment allows voters to independently and privately mark their ballot, and can be used by any voter.
- Voters with disabilities may have assistance with returning their absentee ballot. Assistance can be provided by anyone of the voter’s choosing other than their employer or agent of that employer or officer or agent of their union.
- All Wisconsin polling places are required to offer curbside voting on Election Day for any voter who cannot enter the polling place due to disability. Voters who plan to use curbside voting are encouraged to contact their clerk in advance to ask how to access curbside voting at their polling place.
- Any voter may have a person of their choice assist them; this can include a poll worker. The assistor does not need to be qualified to vote, but cannot be the voter’s employer or union representative.
Additional accommodations are available to voters with disabilities at their polling place. Voters can make accommodations requests to any poll worker at their polling place.
Voters who have an accessibility or voting rights concern are encouraged to report it to the Chief Election Inspector at their polling place or to their Municipal Clerk. Concerns should also be reported to the Wisconsin Elections Commission website or by calling 608-261-2028. The DRW Voter Hotline can assist voters who encounter issues with access at their polling place or who have other questions regarding the voting process in Wisconsin; voters can connect with the Hotline by calling 844-347-8683 or emailing votingteam@drwi.org.
