The Annual Public Forum

The State Superintendent’s Council on Special Education wants to hear from you!

They will hold their annual Public Forum this Wednesday to get your thoughts about special education in Wisconsin. They’d like to hear more about the needs, successes, and challenges for children with disabilities.

The council would like to hear from:

  • Families
  • School administrators
  • Educators
  • Community representatives

Date and Time: October 9, 2024; 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Location: Remotely through Zoom.

What is the State Superintendent’s Council on Special Education?

They are a council that advises the State Superintendent of Public Education. The council works to improve education for children with disabilities through feedback and information they give to the Department of Public Instruction.

They are responsible for:

  • commenting publicly on proposed rules and regulations related to the education of children with disabilities in Wisconsin.
  • advising the State Superintendent on developing evaluations and data reporting for the Office of Special Education Program and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
  • Advising the State Superintendent on developing plans to address problems identified in Federal monitoring reports under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
  • helping to develop and put into place plans for services for children with disabilities.

Members of the council include parents of children with disabilities, school board members, teachers, people with disabilities, administrators of education programs, and representatives from different levels of schools in the state.
